John Boys Midnight Blue Boy
Same as the glass beaded fly but adding a Midnight Blue tungsten bead instead. An interesting fly which I have been experimenting with over a long period and having good success. Blue being one of the last colours in the spectrum makes an interesting fine. Tied in size #12,14,16 & 18 with a bead weight to suit hook size. A lead wrap behind the bead to add a little more weight, using darker pheasant tail fibres tied off in a Turquoise wire to suit makes this an interesting fly.
I have been experimenting with this fly for sometime now, mainly with different colours, however, Blue being one of the last colours in the spectrum to disappear under the surface of the water I found worked best with the light blue wire complimenting the dark blue bead. Black has always been successful bead to use but stumbling across this colour, I took a fancy to it, so I tied a few samples and I was surprised to see how successful it was even against black. If I was to choose another bead to compliment, copper also work well with the blue wire as a contrast.
Interestingly enough, on looking up this colour, spiritually, turquoise is revered as a master healer, powerful protective talisman, and a stone of clear communication. It is used to align the energy centers of the body, dispel negative energy, and foster a deeper connection to intuition and inner wisdom.
Fishing structured water where fish lie, small riffles and drop offs has proved very successful. Size 12 through 18 have all fished well depending on river size.
I use fishing under an indicator, dry dropper, or as a following bead depending on river structure all work well.
