INTRODUCTION
Fly fishing has always been a passion of mine growing up on the banks of the Waipawa river in the late fifties along with my father and his friends who went out on a regular basis. In those days we mainly used wet flies both big and small casting up and across the river allowing the fly to drift and stripping as it swings across the current where most fish would attack. Dry flies were used also depending on the season, weather dependant but generally wets were used. It was not until the 1970's that nymph fishing made an appearance that changed the way we fish today.
