Here are a selection of flies I tie that have been very successful for me and other clients that have purchased.
This new Hare & Copper Tear Drop Bead makes interesting fishing. Tied in the conventional way but when the tear drop hits the water it inverts, turning the fly uside down like a jig fly allowing the fly to drift snag free. Can be fished as a dropper under a dry fly or on its own with an indicator. I usually fish in #16 and #18 as a dropper fly as it looks like a dead spinner drifting in the current. I have also change the tail to a Coq de Leon to give it more strength as generally the tails are first to go from the sharp teeth in the trouts mouth. The thorax is a special blend of hair fibres I have created.
Hare & Copper Tear Drop Bead

This fly has been a long time favorite of mine named after a dear friend who has now sadly passed on. He created this pattern called the ''Grotty", it was his go to fly and has worked in all river systems I have fished. This fly is weighted with 4 to 6 wraps of 010 lead along with a copper wire rib giving it enough weight break the surface film. It can be fished on its own or with various nymphing methods. A scuffy thorax along with a black shell back makes this fly very attractive to hungary fish. Usually tied in #14 and #16 on a Tiemco 2457 grub but can be tied to suit your requirements. When fishing gets tough this fly usually fires.
Little Brown Glass Bead
This is a little holographic glass bead nymph. The bead resembles a water bubble in the water. The scawny thorax helps with the movement of the fly in the water. It also has 4 wraps of 010 lead along with a copper wire rib to break the surface film and to give it enough weight to fish on its own in calm water or under a indicator/dry fly dropper in ripply water. It also works well fishing under a beaded nymph about 4 to 500 ml apart. Usually tied in #14 and #16 but can be tied to suit your requirements. The scruffy thorax gives it the x-factor
Pheasant Tail Copper Bead
A simple traditional Pheasant Tail tied on a standard Kamasan B175. This fly can be tied with or without a Tungsten Bead depending on your requirements. Always a popular choice from anglers across the world.
Little Green Glass Bead
Holographic Green Caddis glass bead. This is a great little fly to use as a dropper or behind as a trailing bead. It also has 4 wraps of 010 lead to add a little weight to break the surface film. Tied on a Tiemco 2457 hook.
Pheasant Tail on a Grub Hook
Pheasant Tail copper bead grub hook. I get alot of calls for this style over the straight form. The copper bead seems to be the flavour of most now against the darker beads. These are usually tied on a Tiemco 2457 hook. Keeping the style lean seems to suit this fly. Can change the colour of the bead if requested.
Sawyer Pheasant Tail
A tried and proven fly designed by the late Frank Sawyer. A simple fly that imitates so many invertebrates in our river systems. I tie this lean and mean and have added 3 to 4 wraps of 010 lead wire with a copper ribbing, enough to break the surface film and drift naturally in the water.
This pattern is tied on either a Tiemco 3769 or Kamasan B175 hook.
Flash Back Pheasant Tail
Traditional Pheasant Tail with a flashback back to entice to picky fish. Weighted with a little lead wrap and tied off with copper wrapping. Ideal to fish when the water levels are dropping and the fish become wary in the enviroment around them. In most cases they tend to target the natural aquatic life that is in the water rather than brighter coloured flies
Slushy Collection
My collection of slushy fly colours! Individual patterns are all tied on a Tiemco 2488H hook and a 3.5mm tungsten bead although I do tie on a #14 & #16 and beads to suit for when the rivers drop and the fish get picky. These flies have evolved from the old egg patterns which have been around for years but are still very popular. With a bit of bling added along with a fabric change, these flies look extremely awesome in the water.
The good old Slushy which is the real winter time fly especially around the Taupo /Tongariro district or any cold water rivers especially leading up to spawning.
Candy Pink Slushy
Candy Pink Slushy with a 3.5mm silver tungsten bead. This new material has extra features which gives the fly a different feature when wet imitating drifting fish eggs.
Candy Pink with Bling
Candy Pink Slushy with 3.5mm Tungsten Bead on a Tiemco 2488H hook. I have added a holographic tail which adds a little bling as a feature. A new material that seems to change when wet imitate drifting egg roe.
Fluoro Orange Slushy
Fluoro Orange slushy tied on a 3.5mm orange tungsten bead.
Fluoro Orange with Bling.
Same as the above but with a holographic tail to add further bling to this fly.
Watermelon Slushy
Watermelon provides another colour to choose from in this range.
The metallic Pink bead gives this fly an added difference.
Pink Salmon
Pink Salmon gives you a lighter style and also on a silver tungsten bead to give an added difference.
Sockeye Slushy
Sockeye provides a lighter style colour looking more washed out than the heavier orange colours. Also
Snow White Slushy
White has always been a popular colour with many white caddis flies being tied over time. The orange bead makes this style stand out.
Fire Orange Slushy
Another blend of orange that gives you further choice to choose from.
